Assam Flood Relief: Over 48.5 Lakh Kg Rice Distributed Across The State
Assam distributes 48.5 lakh kg rice amid ongoing floods.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday said the state government has maintained an uninterrupted supply of essential food items to families affected by the ongoing floods. According to figures shared by the Chief Minister, more than 48.5 lakh kg of rice has been distributed across flood-hit areas since the relief operation began.
Sarma said the administration remained committed to ensuring that essential supplies reached affected families without interruption. Sharing details of the relief efforts on social media, he stated that food items had been delivered to flood-affected communities from the first day of the operation and that the government would continue assisting people throughout the crisis.
According to the figures released by the Chief Minister, 48,55,864 kg of rice has been distributed among flood-affected people. The relief supplies have also included 10,15,785 kg of dal, 4,00,794 kg of salt and 1,63,549 litres of mustard oil, providing affected families with basic food and cooking essentials.

The scale of the distribution reflects the continuing relief operations across flood-hit districts, where normal life has been disrupted by the flooding. District administrations and other agencies have been coordinating the delivery of essential supplies to communities affected by the situation, with priority given to maintaining access to staple food items.
Assam regularly experiences flooding during the monsoon season due to heavy rainfall, rising water levels in the Brahmaputra and its tributaries, and water runoff from neighbouring states. The annual floods can affect large populations across several districts and cause damage to homes, agricultural land, roads and other infrastructure.
Sarma reiterated that the state government would continue providing assistance to families affected by the floods. The latest figures underline the administration’s focus on maintaining food supplies while relief and rehabilitation measures continue in affected areas. The government has pledged to remain engaged with affected communities until conditions improve.
