Assam CM Himanta Sarma & Wife Reveal ₹35 Crore Net Worth: Assets Double in 5 Years

Himanta Sarma, wife declare assets worth Rs 35 crore

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his wife, entrepreneur Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, have declared assets worth a combined ₹35.16 crore in his latest election affidavit, nearly double the ₹17.27 crore they had reported in 2021. The disclosure, filed along with Sarma’s nomination as a BJP candidate from the Jalukbari constituency for the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, places the couple among the wealthier political families in the state while also highlighting the growing wealth‑generation role of businesses associated with political spouses.

Sarma’s personal declarations remain modest in comparison to his wife’s holdings. The 57‑year‑old chief minister has listed only movable assets valued at ₹2.36 crore, up from ₹1.72 crore in 2021, including cash in hand, bank deposits, gold, and some loans, while declaring no immovable property in his own name. Under liabilities, he has disclosed loans amounting to about ₹95 lakh from banks and financial institutions, a figure that his wife’s obligations far exceed.

In contrast, Riniki, the managing director of media company Pride East Entertainment, has reported a substantial portfolio of both movable and immovable assets. She has declared ₹13.54 crore in movable assets and ₹19.25 crore in immovable assets, encompassing self‑acquired and inherited properties assessed at current market value, bringing her total declared worth to around ₹32.79 crore. Riniki’s liabilities stand at ₹15.91 crore, all in the form of loans, and she also has around ₹5.10 crore in investments across bonds, debentures, shares, and mutual funds, along with a life insurance policy worth over ₹1.77 crore.

Cash and gold holdings further underscore the couple’s financial profile. Sarma has reported ₹2.28 lakh in cash, along with four bank deposits aggregating about ₹68 lakh, while Riniki has ₹3.16 lakh in physical cash and four bank deposits worth roughly ₹74.85 lakh. The chief minister owns about 180 grams of gold valued at ₹25.10 lakh, whereas Riniki’s gold holdings are worth about ₹2.03 crore, reflecting a pattern where the bulk of the family’s wealth resides in her entrepreneurial and investment vehicles rather than in his salary‑linked assets.

The doubling of their combined declared income over five years has drawn both curiosity and scrutiny in Guwahati’s political and business circles, as it coincides with Riniki’s expanding media and financial interests and the chief minister’s prolonged tenure at the helm of the state. While the affidavit shows no agricultural land in the couple’s immovable holdings, the scale of the declared assets has reignited debates about transparency, the interface between political power and private business, and how wealth is generated and reported by top officeholders in India’s northeastern states.
