Assam Becomes India's First State with AI-Powered Hospital Monitoring System
Assam launches India's first AI-based contactless patient monitoring at GMCH.
In a historic step for public healthcare in India, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the country’s first AI-based, contactless remote patient monitoring system at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). The advanced technology has been installed in a step-down ICU ward, part of the newly inaugurated medical college complex, marking a major milestone in AI-enabled clinical care in India.
The initiative, in collaboration with Lord’s Mark Industries Ltd, reflects Assam’s commitment to elevating public healthcare standards through cutting-edge technology. The system provides continuous, non-intrusive monitoring of patients’ vital parameters, enabling early risk detection, faster clinical decision-making, and enhanced infection control, particularly in critical care settings.
Chief Minister Sarma highlighted the government’s proactive approach to modernising healthcare, emphasizing that AI-driven technology would ensure accurate diagnostics, timely interventions, and globally benchmarked standards of care. “This step positions Assam at the forefront of future-ready public healthcare, delivering quality clinical services to citizens while setting an example for other states,” he said.

Dr. Sachidanand Upadhyay, MD & CEO of Lord’s Mark Industries Ltd, noted that the deployment marks a shift from reactive healthcare to predictive, AI-led clinical management. He stated that real-time insights provided by the system would allow clinicians to make more informed decisions, improve patient outcomes, and serve as a replicable model for hospitals across India.
This deployment makes Assam the first Indian state to operationalise an AI-driven hospital model within the public sector. The contactless system minimizes physical interaction, enhancing patient safety while reducing the risk of infection and ensuring clinical efficiency in high-dependency wards.
The initiative also aligns with Assam’s broader digital healthcare strategy and serves as a national blueprint for scaling AI-enabled medical solutions. For Lord’s Mark Industries Ltd, it reinforces its commitment to developing Made-in-India healthcare innovations that address real-world clinical challenges and strengthen collaboration with government institutions for modernising India’s healthcare ecosystem.
