Assam Assembly Elections 2026: Voter List, Booth Details, Timings and ID Rules Explained
Assam votes on April 9 across 126 seats with 722 total candidates.
Voting for the Assam Legislative Assembly elections is set to take place on April 9, 2026, with authorities urging citizens to verify their details in advance to ensure a smooth polling process. The Election Commission of India has streamlined online services to help voters quickly check their names in the electoral roll, locate polling booths, and confirm eligibility ahead of the crucial democratic exercise.
The elections will be held across all 126 constituencies in the state, with a total of 722 candidates contesting for the mandate of nearly 2.5 crore eligible voters. Polling will begin at 7:00 am and continue until 6:00 pm on April 9, with a public holiday declared across Assam to facilitate voter participation. Authorities have also enforced the mandatory 48-hour silence period, during which all campaigning activities are prohibited to maintain a fair electoral environment.
To check their names in the voter list, electors can visit official platforms such as the National Voters’ Service Portal or the electoral search website provided by the Election Commission. Users can search their details either by entering their EPIC (Voter ID) number or by manually providing personal details such as name, age, and constituency. Once verified, voters can access their digital voter slip, which contains information about their polling station and serial number.

Officials have clarified that the voter information slip is not a valid identity document for voting. Electors must carry a government-issued photo ID such as an Aadhaar card, PAN card, passport, or driving licence to cast their vote. This requirement ensures proper identification and prevents any discrepancies during the polling process.
Strict guidelines have also been issued to maintain the secrecy and integrity of the voting process. Items such as mobile phones, cameras, and other electronic devices are strictly prohibited inside polling booths. Election authorities have put in place standard facilities at polling stations to assist voters and ensure a secure and orderly voting experience.
The counting of votes is scheduled for May 4, 2026, when results for all 126 constituencies will be announced. With the current assembly’s term nearing its end, the election is expected to play a decisive role in shaping the political future of Assam, as voters prepare to elect their next government.
