Arvind Kejriwal Asks Meta Why His Account is Restricted
Arvind Kejriwal questions Meta over unexplained social media account restriction.
Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal has questioned Meta after one of his social-media accounts was reportedly restricted and made unavailable to users in India. Kejriwal said he had not received a clear explanation from the company about why the restriction was imposed or what steps were required to restore access.
In a post on X, Kejriwal shared an image indicating that his account was “unavailable in some locations.” He claimed verbal inquiries at Meta’s India office confirmed that access had been restricted within the country. However, he said company representatives had neither provided a reason for the action nor suggested a process for having it removed.
Kejriwal also criticised the company’s handling of his written complaints. According to him, several emails seeking clarification received only routine acknowledgements rather than a detailed response. Describing the communication as inadequate, he asked Meta to explain the basis of the restriction and provide a solution.

Meta had not issued an immediate public response to Kejriwal’s allegations. It was therefore unclear what prompted the restriction, whether it resulted from an automated moderation decision or another issue, and how long the account would remain unavailable. No official explanation regarding a possible violation of the company’s policies had been provided.
The complaint comes shortly after Meta acknowledged a separate error involving a Facebook post by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Meta Chief Global Affairs Officer Joel Kaplan said he apologised to Union Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw after the company mistakenly restricted the Prime Minister’s post the previous month.
The latest incident has renewed attention on transparency and responsiveness in social-media moderation, particularly when accounts belonging to public figures are affected. India is Meta’s largest market by user numbers, with hundreds of millions of people accessing Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. Kejriwal has sought a clear explanation from the company and instructions for reversing the restriction.
