Army Chief: Operation Sindoor Shows India's True Resolve and Restraint

Operation Sindoor showcased India's firm resolve, restraint, and strong youth support during a major counter-terror strike.

Operation Sindoor stands as a defining chapter in India’s modern military history, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi said on Wednesday, describing it as a clear demonstration of the nation’s resolve tempered with restraint. Addressing NCC cadets at the Republic Day Camp in New Delhi, he highlighted how the operation reflected not only the professionalism of the armed forces but also the moral strength of India’s youth. The operation was launched in the early hours of May 7 last year, following the deadly Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 civilian lives.

The Army Chief noted that Operation Sindoor resulted in the elimination of at least 100 terrorists and dealt a decisive blow to terror infrastructure. He reiterated that the operation reset strategic assumptions in the region, as Indian forces struck deep while decisively countering Pakistan’s long-standing nuclear rhetoric. A day earlier, General Dwivedi had warned that the operation remains ongoing and that any misadventure by the adversary would be met with a resolute response.

Recalling the role of the National Cadet Corps, General Dwivedi praised the exceptional contribution of young cadets during the operation. More than 75,000 NCC cadets volunteered across the country, supporting civil defence, hospital management, disaster relief, and community services. Their commitment, he said, demonstrated the immense potential and discipline of India’s Generation Z in times of national crisis.

Emphasising the importance of channelising youth energy, the Army Chief described young Indians as a vast reservoir of strength that must be guided with purpose and national commitment. He reaffirmed that the NCC continues to be a key pathway for aspiring youths to join the armed forces. According to him, recent events have clearly shown that Indian youth are capable of rising to extraordinary challenges.

General Dwivedi also stressed the need for “civilisational atmanirbharta,” calling for self-reliance in thought, technology, innovation, and character. He highlighted initiatives such as Army cells at IITs, technology clusters, and the Army Internship Programmes for 2025 and 2026, aimed at fostering innovation and deeper youth engagement in national security and development.

Concluding his address, the Army Chief said the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 cannot be achieved by the government alone. It will require the collective effort of young leaders, NCC cadets, professionals, soldiers, and responsible citizens. He urged the youth to march with discipline, innovate with integrity, and serve the nation, affirming that together they will build a strong, self-reliant, united, and developed India.
