Andhra Pradesh Health Dept Receives 1.9 Lakh Additional HPV Vaccines for Girls

Andhra Pradesh receives 1.9 lakh more HPV vaccine doses; drive for teenage girls continues.

The Andhra Pradesh government has received an additional 1.90 lakh doses of the HPV vaccine from the Centre, aimed at protecting adolescent girls aged 14–15 from cervical cancer, Health Minister Y. Sathya Kumar Yadav announced. This latest consignment follows an earlier batch of 1.90 lakh doses received last month, bringing the total supply to 3.81 lakh doses.

According to official figures, there are 3.45 lakh eligible girls across the state. Of these, 1.14 lakh (33.19%) have already been vaccinated. District-level data shows relatively high coverage in Kurnool (6,785), Nellore (6,726), Kadapa (6,725), and Anantapur (6,655), while lower numbers were recorded in Polavaram (669), ASR (1,063), Sri Sathya Sai (2,769), and Anakapalle (2,959). Authorities are ensuring vaccines are distributed proportionally based on local populations.

Vaccinations are being administered at 1,645 primary and urban health centres across Andhra Pradesh, all equipped with cold-chain facilities to maintain vaccine integrity. Following inoculation, girls are monitored for 30 minutes to ensure safety. Officials confirmed that no adverse reactions have been reported so far.

The Health Minister stated that the pace of vaccination is expected to increase in the coming weeks and that the drive will continue without interruption. Andhra Pradesh has emerged as one of the leading states in implementing the HPV vaccination programme, in line with directives from the central government.

The initiative is part of a broader effort to prevent cervical cancer, a major public health concern, by targeting adolescent girls before exposure to the human papillomavirus. Health officials emphasise that timely vaccination can significantly reduce the incidence of cervical cancer in the state.

Authorities continue to encourage eligible girls and their families to participate in the programme, highlighting the importance of completing the vaccination schedule and ensuring community-wide protection against the disease.
