Andhra Pradesh Commissions 600 MW Solar Projects Under Integrated Clean Energy Policy

Andhra Pradesh commissions 600 MW solar projects under clean energy policy.

Andhra Pradesh has stepped up the implementation of its Integrated Clean Energy Policy, 2024, with the state positioning itself as a major hub for renewable energy investments in India. Under the policy framework, the government aims to attract investments worth ₹10 lakh crore across sectors including solar, wind, energy storage, green hydrogen, transmission infrastructure, and manufacturing ecosystems by 2029. Officials say the initiative is central to the state’s long-term strategy to transition toward large-scale clean energy production.

A significant milestone in this push has been the commissioning of 600 MW solar power projects in YSR Kadapa district. The projects, developed under SAEL Limited, are part of the first major execution phase of the new policy. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu described the commissioning as a matter of pride for the state, stating that Andhra Pradesh is committed to becoming India’s “clean energy capital” through accelerated renewable expansion and investor-friendly policies.

The projects will be formally inaugurated by State Minister Nara Lokesh, highlighting the government’s focus on high-profile rollout of clean energy infrastructure. According to an official release, the combined 600 MW capacity was completed in a record timeframe of 11 months, underscoring the state’s emphasis on fast-tracked execution and large-scale private sector participation in renewable energy development.

Developed with an estimated investment of around ₹3,000 crore, the solar facility spans more than 2,400 acres and is among the most significant renewable energy projects in the state in recent years. The installation uses over 12 lakh advanced TOPCon bifacial solar modules, many of which were manufactured in facilities located in Punjab and Rajasthan, reflecting a broader domestic supply chain integration in India’s renewable energy sector.

The generated power will be supplied to the national grid under a 25-year power purchase agreement with the Solar Energy Corporation of India, ensuring long-term revenue stability for the project. Officials estimate that the project will help reduce nearly 11 lakh tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually while also contributing to regional economic development through job creation and land lease income for local farmers.

The initiative has already generated employment for more than 1,000 workers during construction, with a majority drawn from local communities in the region. Authorities say the project has also created sustained income opportunities for farmers through long-term lease agreements, reinforcing the government’s broader goal of combining clean energy expansion with rural economic upliftment and sustainable development.
