Andhra Minister S Savitha Welcomes FCRA Restoration For Rural Development Trust

NGO regains clearance to continue decades-long welfare initiatives.

Andhra Pradesh minister S Savitha on Tuesday welcomed the restoration of Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) clearance for the Rural Development Trust, describing the development as a “lifeline” for communities across the Rayalaseema region. The approval allows the non-governmental organisation to resume receiving foreign funds and fully restart its wide-ranging welfare activities.

Savitha highlighted that the organisation has been serving the people of Rayalaseema for nearly five decades, playing a critical role in improving living conditions in one of Andhra Pradesh’s most drought-prone areas. She noted that the restoration of FCRA status would enable the trust to continue its mission without financial constraints, ensuring uninterrupted support for vulnerable communities.

Founded by humanitarian couple Vicente Ferrer and Anne Ferrer, the Rural Development Trust has built a strong presence in the region through its extensive grassroots initiatives. Over the years, it has worked across sectors such as healthcare, education, housing, and rural development, significantly impacting thousands of lives.

According to the minister, the organisation has established hospitals and clinics, promoted access to education, supported persons with disabilities, and contributed to the construction of housing for economically weaker sections. It has also focused on women’s empowerment, sports development, and agricultural support, addressing multiple dimensions of rural poverty and social inequality.

The Rayalaseema region, known for its arid climate and recurring drought conditions, has long depended on such developmental interventions. The trust’s work has been particularly vital in bridging gaps in public infrastructure and delivering essential services to remote and underserved communities.

The restoration of FCRA clearance is expected to strengthen the organisation’s operations and expand its outreach, offering renewed hope to beneficiaries across the region. Officials and stakeholders view the decision as a significant step toward sustaining long-term development efforts and improving the quality of life in Rayalaseema.
