Andhra Funds Free Power for Ganesh Festival
Free electricity for Andhra’s Ganesh festival
The Andhra Pradesh government has allocated Rs 25 crore to provide free electricity to 15,000 Ganesh marquees across the state for the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations, Energy Minister G Ravi Kumar announced. The initiative aims to ensure uninterrupted spiritual programs during the festival, scheduled to begin on September 6, 2025.
In a Telugu Desam Party (TDP) press release issued late Monday, Kumar emphasized the NDA coalition government’s commitment to facilitating a hassle-free festive experience. “This Rs 25 crore allocation reflects our dedication to supporting cultural and religious celebrations while promoting public welfare,” he stated.
Kumar criticized the previous YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government under Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, accusing it of plunging Andhra Pradesh into debt with poorly planned welfare schemes between 2019 and 2024. He claimed the YSRCP’s initiatives lacked economic value and failed to create wealth, contrasting this with the NDA’s focus on balanced governance through wealth generation and effective welfare programs.

Highlighting the TDP-led government’s achievements, Kumar noted that within a year of taking office in 2024, it fulfilled key election promises, unlike the “unrealistic” pledges of the YSRCP. The free electricity scheme is part of broader efforts to support community-driven festivals while advancing the state’s development agenda.
