Andhra CM Warns of Strict Action Against Crimes on Women, Fake Social Media Campaigns
Naidu highlights crime reduction stats, vows better policing and cyber threat control.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu announced stringent measures against perpetrators of crimes against women and those orchestrating fake social media campaigns, emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy during an Assembly address on law and order. Naidu, leader of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), accused the previous YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government of undermining the state’s policing system, citing his own arrest and drone surveillance as examples of its alleged high-handedness. He vowed to restore public confidence through comprehensive reforms across departments.
Naidu stressed that his administration rejects “revenge politics,” urging party leaders to avoid retaliatory actions despite grievances against the former regime. “No one can escape the law,” he declared, promising justice without bias. Highlighting the menace of fake social media campaigns, particularly those targeting women with objectionable content, Naidu warned of severe consequences for those engaging in character assassination through misinformation. He accused certain paid groups of fueling such activities, pledging robust action to curb these cyber threats.
The Chief Minister shared encouraging statistics, noting a 5% decrease in crimes against women over the past year, alongside significant declines in dowry deaths (43%), murders of women (15%), female suicides (59%), and cyber threats against women (17%). Additionally, 343 individuals involved in crimes against women have been incarcerated. To bolster safety, Naidu outlined measures like reducing police response time to 8-10 minutes, forming Sakthi teams, and opening rowdy sheets against sexual offenders, ensuring swift and decisive action.

Beyond women’s safety, Naidu highlighted the success of the Eagle Task Force in curbing marijuana smuggling, declaring Andhra Pradesh a “ganja cultivation-free state.” He also cautioned citizens against rising cyber fraud, urging vigilance even among educated individuals. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government, Naidu affirmed, is committed to strengthening law and order, aiming to rebuild trust in the system through proactive governance and accountability.
