Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday laid the foundation for a $15 billion Google Artificial Intelligence data centre near Visakhapatnam. The project is being developed as one of the largest AI-driven digital infrastructure investments in India. Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw was also present at the ceremony. The government described the event as a key milestone for the state’s long-term technology strategy. Officials said the facility will significantly strengthen India’s position in global AI infrastructure.

Addressing the foundation ceremony, Naidu called the day historic for both Andhra Pradesh and the country. He said the investment would be remembered as a turning point in India’s digital development journey. According to him, the Google AI data centre will function as a major growth engine for the national economy. He added that the project reflects strong global investor confidence in India’s technology ecosystem. The Chief Minister emphasized that Andhra Pradesh is positioning itself as a future-ready digital hub.

Naidu stated that the ₹1.35 lakh crore project would become a flagship development for the North Andhra region. He described it as Asia’s largest AI data centre initiative, highlighting its scale and ambition. The Chief Minister said the project began in September 2025 and is scheduled for inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 28, 2028. He assured full cooperation from the Andhra Pradesh government for timely execution. Naidu also highlighted the state’s strengths, including abundant land availability, water resources, and access to green energy. He said these factors make Andhra Pradesh a suitable destination for large-scale digital infrastructure. He also credited the Centre for supporting the project’s approval and development.

Naidu further spoke about the growing role of artificial intelligence in everyday life. He said AI systems would soon support citizens through tools such as AI doctors, assistants, and advisory platforms. According to him, these technologies will improve governance, healthcare access, and productivity. He added that he himself would begin using an AI assistant to improve administrative efficiency. The government believes such advancements will help bridge digital gaps across rural and urban areas.

Officials said the data centre will have a capacity of 1 GW and will be developed across 600 acres in Tarluvada, Adavivaram, and Rambilli villages near Visakhapatnam. The facility will provide advanced AI cloud computing, data storage, and high-performance digital infrastructure. It is expected to become one of India’s largest AI hubs and part of a broader multi-gigawatt ecosystem of around 6.5 GW. The state aims to position itself as a major global data centre destination. The project is also expected to generate large-scale indirect economic activity in the region.
