Amit Shah's Health Transformation: Lost 20 Kg, Reversed Diabetes
Amit Shah shares how lifestyle changes reversed his diabetes.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has spoken about his health transformation, saying that sustained changes to his daily routine helped him lose more than 20 kg and improve his overall well-being. Shah discussed his experience while addressing an event at the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS) in Delhi on April 19, 2025. He said he began making major lifestyle changes in May 2020, focusing on sleep, hydration, diet and regular physical activity.
Shah said he had earlier been diabetic and decided to make significant changes to his lifestyle rather than rely solely on temporary measures. “I was diabetic earlier. I made a huge change in my life since May 2020 till today. I fixed my sleep, improved my water intake, diet, and regular exercise,” he said. According to Shah, these changes helped him lose more than 20 kg over the years.
The Union minister also spoke about his use of medication, saying that his lifestyle changes eventually allowed him to stop taking allopathic medicines. “I have achieved much in life. In the last 4.5 years, I have become free from all allopathic medicines,” he said. However, the report noted that these claims were based on user-generated social media content and had not been independently verified by Hindustan Times.

Shah also highlighted the importance of allocating sufficient time to exercise and sleep. Addressing young people, he advised them to “dedicate two hours of exercise for your body and six hours of sleep for your brain.” His comments focused on the importance of developing consistent habits rather than following quick-fix diets or short-term fitness programmes.
His account comes amid growing discussions around lifestyle-related health problems and the role of physical activity, diet and sleep in maintaining overall health. While regular exercise, balanced nutrition, adequate hydration and sufficient rest can contribute to well-being, individual health needs vary, particularly for people managing conditions such as diabetes. Medical treatment should therefore not be stopped or changed without professional advice.
Shah's experience highlights the potential importance of long-term lifestyle changes in supporting health and fitness. However, his personal results should not be treated as a universal prescription for weight loss or diabetes management. Anyone dealing with diabetes, weight concerns or other medical conditions should consult a qualified healthcare professional before making major changes to medication, diet or exercise.
