Amit Shah Says Women-Led Development Is Driving New Era Of Nari Shakti Empowerment

Amit Shah highlights welfare schemes and growing participation of women in nation-building initiatives.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday said that the Modi government’s emphasis on a women-led development model over the past 12 years has played a key role in advancing the empowerment, dignity, and participation of women across India. His remarks came as the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government marked 12 years in office since assuming power in 2014.

In a message shared on social media, Shah highlighted a range of initiatives aimed at improving the lives of women and expanding their role in national development. He said programmes such as the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign, the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, and large-scale sanitation initiatives have prioritised the safety, dignity, and convenience of women. According to the Home Minister, these measures have contributed to significant social and economic progress.

Shah also pointed to financial inclusion and entrepreneurship schemes as major drivers of women’s empowerment. He stated that a substantial proportion of beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana are women, enabling access to collateral-free loans and promoting self-employment opportunities. He further cited initiatives such as the Lakhpati Didi and Crorepati Didi programmes, along with self-help groups, as efforts designed to strengthen women’s economic independence and leadership at the grassroots level.

The Home Minister highlighted legislative reforms as another milestone in the government’s agenda for women’s empowerment. He noted that the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, enacted in 2023, has paved the way for 33 per cent reservation for women in legislative bodies, a move that supporters say will enhance female representation in political decision-making and governance.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also underscored the achievements of women across sectors while reaffirming the government’s commitment to women-led development. Using the hashtag #12YearsOfNariShakti, Modi said women have expanded their presence in fields ranging from entrepreneurship and education to healthcare, science, sports, housing, and public administration, reflecting broader social and economic transformation.

The Prime Minister described women as a cornerstone of nation-building and praised their contributions to the country’s growth and global standing. He said that India’s mothers, sisters, and daughters are making significant contributions across diverse sectors through their talent, skills, and leadership, further strengthening the vision of inclusive development and gender empowerment.
