Amit Shah, Leaders Praise India’s Seven-Wicket Win in Blind Women’s T20 World Cup

India wins the inaugural Blind Women’s T20 World Cup as leaders hail the team’s historic, inspiring achievement.

India clinched the inaugural Women’s T20 Cricket World Cup for the Blind 2025 on Sunday, defeating Nepal by seven wickets in a commanding final performance at Colombo. Captain Deepika TC led the team to the historic title, chasing down Nepal’s modest total with clinical precision and sealing India’s dominance in the tournament hosted by the Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI) in collaboration with Sri Lanka’s blind cricket body. The victory marked the first-ever global crown in the women’s blind T20 format and triggered nationwide celebrations.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah hailed the triumph as “remarkable,” posting, X: “Our Tiranga today flutters higher with pride at your achievement. Your triumph mirrors your resolve and dedication to win honors for the nation.” Communications and Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia echoed the praise, calling it a “historic achievement” and adding, “India creates history, and it’s our Women in Blue leading the way once again. What a moment and what an extraordinary month for Indian women’s cricket.”

The win caps a golden November for Indian women’s cricket across formats. Less than three weeks after the senior Women in Blue lifted the regular T20 World Cup in the Caribbean, their visually impaired counterparts have now etched their names in history by becoming the first world champions in the blind category. Players from the B1 (totally blind) to B3 (partially sighted) classifications showcased extraordinary skill, adapting the game with an audible ball and underarm bowling rules tailored for the format.

The Indian team remained unbeaten throughout the tournament, overpowering opponents with disciplined bowling and aggressive batting. In the final, Nepal struggled against India’s attack and was restricted to a below-par total before the Indian batters chased it down with overs to spare. Jubilant scenes followed as the players, draped in the tricolor, lifted the trophy amid thunderous applause from the Colombo crowd and millions watching the live stream back home.

The victory has amplified calls for greater recognition and support for para-sports in India. CABI officials noted that the team trained under resource constraints yet delivered a performance that rivalled the best in able-bodied cricket. As congratulations poured in from political leaders, cricket legends, and citizens alike, the Women in Blue Blind have not only brought home a World Cup but also inspired a nation with their indomitable spirit and sheer excellence.
