Amit Shah Extends FTI-TTP : Faster Immigration Now at Five More Airports
Fast Track Immigration launched at five more airports.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah unveiled a major expansion of the Fast Track Immigration-Trusted Traveller Programme (FTI-TTP) on September 11, 2025, bringing faster and seamless immigration clearance to five additional airports: Lucknow, Thiruvananthapuram, Tiruchirappalli, Kozhikode, and Amritsar. The initiative, aimed at enhancing the travel experience for pre-verified Indian nationals and Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholders, was launched virtually during a special event in New Delhi, marking a significant step toward modernizing India’s immigration infrastructure.
Initially rolled out at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport in July 2024, the FTI-TTP was extended to seven other major airports—Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Cochin, and Ahmedabad—in September 2024. With Thursday’s launch, the programme now covers 13 airports, with plans to include 21 major airports across India in the coming phases. “The Fast Track Immigration programme makes immigration simpler, faster, and hassle-free,” Shah said, highlighting its role in facilitating international mobility. He noted that over three lakh people have registered, with 2.65 lakh already benefiting from the expedited clearance process.
The FTI-TTP, offered on a gratis basis in its initial phase, allows eligible passengers to bypass traditional immigration queues by using e-gates, which rely on biometric authentication (fingerprint and facial recognition) for swift clearance. Modelled after the US Global Entry Program, it ensures secure and efficient processing for low-risk travellers. To enroll, travellers must apply online at www.ftittp.mha.gov.in, submit biometrics at designated airports or Foreigners Regional Registration Offices (FRROs), and hold a passport valid for at least six months. The registration remains valid for up to five years or until the passport expires, whichever comes first.

The Bureau of Immigration, the nodal agency for the programme, verifies applicant details and maintains a “White List” of trusted travellers, whose identities are authenticated via e-gates for automatic clearance. “Several thousand passengers have already experienced faster immigration through this system,” an official said, underscoring its success in streamlining international travel.
The programme will roll out in two phases: the first for Indian citizens and OCI cardholders, and the second for foreign travellers. A dedicated helpdesk (india.ftittp-boi@mha.gov.in) has been established to assist applicants. The initiative reflects India’s commitment to leveraging technology for secure and efficient border management, aligning with global standards while enhancing the travel experience.
As India positions itself as a global travel hub, the FTI-TTP’s expansion is poised to benefit millions, reducing wait times and elevating passenger convenience. Shah’s push for modernization underscores the government’s focus on infrastructure and innovation, with the programme set to transform the immigration process at India’s busiest airports, making travel smoother for citizens and diaspora alike.
