Amit Shah Chairs Review Meeting On India-Pak Border Security In Bikaner

Amit Shah reviews India-Pak border security, stresses 360-degree coordination framework.

Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards of security along the India-Pakistan international border, as he chaired a high-level review meeting in Bikaner to assess and strengthen border management systems. The meeting focused on enhancing coordination between central and state agencies to address evolving security challenges along Rajasthan’s frontier districts.

The review meeting, held on Tuesday, was attended by Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma along with senior state officials and District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police from Bikaner, Jaisalmer, Barmer, Sri Ganganagar, and Phalodi. Officials discussed strategies to improve surveillance, intelligence sharing, and enforcement mechanisms across sensitive border areas.

A major outcome of the meeting was the proposal to establish a “360-degree security grid” across all border districts. The framework is designed to integrate local communities, administrative bodies, and security agencies into a unified system aimed at strengthening border vigilance and improving rapid response capabilities in sensitive zones.

The Home Minister directed strict enforcement of a zero-tolerance policy against illegal constructions within a 15-kilometre radius of the international border. He also emphasised coordinated action among agencies such as the Border Security Force (BSF), Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), and Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) to curb infiltration, drug trafficking, smuggling, and terror financing networks operating in border regions.

Officials were further instructed to strengthen financial and cyber monitoring mechanisms, including scrutiny of shell companies, mule accounts, suspicious transactions, and fraudulent identity documents. The use of the national cybercrime helpline 1930 was highlighted as a key tool for improving response time to digital offences, alongside strict enforcement of newly introduced criminal laws to streamline policing and judicial processes.

The meeting also underscored the importance of the Vibrant Villages Programme-II, aimed at improving infrastructure, governance, and economic development in border villages. The initiative seeks to enhance livelihood opportunities while ensuring that border communities play an active role in maintaining security and preventing cross-border crimes, reinforcing the government’s broader strategy of integrated border development and national security.
