Amaravati To Begin! PM Modi To Relaunch Project on May 2

PM Modi to Relaunch Amaravati Capital Project on May 2

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Andhra Pradesh on May 2 to relaunch the construction of Amaravati, the state’s greenfield capital city, Chief Secretary K Vijayanand announced on Wednesday.

The event, marking the resumption of a project stalled for five years, will see Modi initiate development works worth approximately Rs 1 lakh crore, including infrastructure, housing, and educational institutions, at a public meeting behind the Amaravati Secretariat, expected to draw one lakh attendees.

The Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) has mobilized significant funding, with Rs 15,000 crore from the World Bank, Rs 11,000 crore from HUDCO, and Rs 4,200 crore from the Central Government, alongside Rs 37,702 crore in finalized tenders.

The project, envisioned as a world-class city inspired by Singapore and Tokyo, spans 53,500 acres, with 30% dedicated to green spaces. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who laid the foundation stone with Modi in 2015, emphasized coordination among TDP, BJP, and Janasena for the project’s success.

The relaunch follows a halt under the YSRCP’s three-capital proposal from 2019 to 2024. The TDP-led NDA government, regaining power in June 2024, aims to complete phase-1 within three years, developing government complexes, roads, and amenities.

A ministerial sub-committee, including P Keshav and P Narayana, is overseeing arrangements, with extensive groundwork, including land leveling and security, underway. Modi’s visit underscores renewed central-state collaboration to transform Amaravati into a vibrant economic and administrative hub.
