Engine Snag Triggers Emergency On Alliance Air Flight
A full emergency was declared on an Alliance Air flight from Prayagraj to Delhi on Friday after one of its engines became inoperative, airport officials said. The technical issue prompted the activation of emergency response measures before the aircraft continued its journey and landed safely at Delhi airport. The flight, numbered 9I 698, was operated using an ATR 72 aircraft and had around 40 passengers on board. According to an airport official, the flight declared a full emergency after one engine stopped operating. “All necessary emergency response measures were activated,” the official said.
Such procedures are initiated at airports when an aircraft reports a serious technical issue requiring emergency services to be placed on standby. The aircraft continued towards its destination and subsequently completed the landing at Delhi airport. Flight-tracking information indicated that the aircraft landed at Delhi airport at around 2.15 pm on Friday. The landing followed the reported engine problem during the Delhi-bound journey. Officials did not immediately indicate any injuries among the passengers or provide further details about the nature of the technical snag.
The incident nevertheless led airport authorities to activate the required emergency arrangements as a precaution. The aircraft involved was an ATR 72, a twin-engine turboprop commonly used for regional air services. Flight 9I 698 was carrying approximately 40 passengers when the engine became inoperative. With one engine unavailable, the crew and airport authorities followed emergency procedures to ensure that the aircraft could complete its journey safely. The aircraft ultimately reached Delhi, allowing passengers to disembark at the destination.

The incident comes days after another Alliance Air aircraft experienced a technical problem during landing at Bilasa Devi Kevat Airport in Bilaspur. On August 28, a Delhi-Bilaspur flight operated by the airline suffered a tyre burst while landing. There were 37 passengers and four crew members on board, and all of them were safely evacuated from the aircraft after the incident. Bilasa Devi Kevat Airport director B Singh said the aircraft's left tyre burst during landing, after which the aircraft experienced a problem on the runway. Passengers and crew members were deboarded on the runway and subsequently taken safely to the terminal building.
The incident did not result in any reported injuries, according to the information provided at the time. The latest emergency involving the Prayagraj-Delhi service again placed attention on aircraft safety procedures and the emergency response systems maintained at airports. While the Alliance Air flight reported an engine becoming inoperative, the aircraft was able to land at Delhi after the emergency was declared. The incident and the earlier Bilaspur tyre burst involved different technical issues, but both were managed through established airport safety procedures, with passengers and crew safely brought off the aircraft.
