All-Party Meet Called On Jan 27 Before Budget Session

Government convenes all-party meeting on January 27 ahead of Budget Session starting January 28.

In preparation for the Budget Session of Parliament, the Union government has called an all-party meeting on January 27 to discuss its legislative agenda and seek cooperation from opposition parties. The meeting, a customary pre-session exercise, aims to minimize disruptions and facilitate constructive debate during one of Parliament’s most crucial sittings of the year.

Convened by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, the meeting will be held at 11 am in the main committee room of the Parliament House annexe. Senior cabinet ministers are expected to brief opposition leaders on key bills, the tentative schedule of business, and the government’s policy priorities for the session.

The Budget Session will formally commence on January 28 with President Droupadi Murmu’s address to a joint sitting of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. The President’s speech will outline the government’s broad economic vision, reform agenda, and legislative intent, setting the tone ahead of the presentation of the Union Budget.

From the government’s perspective, the all-party meeting is aimed at ensuring legislative productivity at a time when several important bills are expected to be tabled. The ruling dispensation is likely to seek opposition support to allow debates, discussions, and voting to proceed without repeated adjournments.

Opposition parties, however, are expected to use the meeting to flag key political and economic concerns they plan to raise during the session. Issues such as inflation, unemployment, federal relations, and governance are likely to dominate their agenda, along with demands for detailed and time-bound discussions on recent policy decisions.

As one of the most significant parliamentary sittings of the year, the Budget Session will be closely watched for how effectively the government and opposition manage their differences. With the Union Budget and multiple legislative proposals under scrutiny, the tone set during the all-party meeting could play a crucial role in shaping the course of parliamentary proceedings in the weeks ahead.
