Ajit Pawar Visits Flood-Hit Farmers, Promises Swift Government Relief Measures
Maharashtra’s Deputy CM vows swift relief for rain-hit farmers.
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar visited rain-ravaged Karmala taluka in Solapur district on Wednesday, assuring farmers devastated by recent heavy rainfall that the state government stands firmly behind them. Torrential rains have wreaked havoc across multiple regions of Maharashtra, causing extensive crop damage and leaving farmers in distress. Pawar, who toured affected fields and met with farmers, urged them not to lose hope and promised immediate assistance to mitigate their losses.
“I’ve seen the devastation firsthand. The continuous heavy rainfall has caused significant damage to crops, and I’ve spoken directly with farmers to understand their challenges,” Pawar shared in a post on X. He emphasized that the state administration has been directed to act swiftly, conducting meticulous assessments, known as panchnamas, to evaluate the extent of the damage and ensure prompt delivery of financial aid and relief measures. “Our government is committed to supporting our farmers through this crisis,” he added.
Pawar instructed local authorities to prioritize relief efforts, expedite damage assessments, and disburse compensation without delay. The state has already announced Rs 2,215 crore in assistance for 31.64 lakh affected farmers, but this move has sparked criticism from opposition leaders. State Congress spokesperson Sachin Sawant slammed the aid package, calling the allocated Rs 7,000 per farmer “grossly inadequate” given the scale of losses. “The Congress demands Rs 50,000 per hectare to truly support farmers. Why does the government, so generous to its corporate allies, hesitate to help the common man?” Sawant questioned.

The heavy rains have not only destroyed crops but also deepened the financial woes of farmers already grappling with unpredictable weather patterns. Pawar’s assurances come as a ray of hope, but with criticism mounting over the adequacy of the relief package, the government faces pressure to deliver meaningful support. As relief efforts unfold, farmers across Maharashtra await tangible aid to rebuild their livelihoods in the wake of this natural calamity.
