Ajit Pawar Plane Crash: Maharashtra Govt Orders CID Probe, New Video And 3 Theories Unfold
Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar and four others perished in a Learjet crash near Baramati; the state CID probes amid new video evidence and expert theories.
The fatal crash of a private business jet carrying Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has triggered shockwaves across the state and set off intense political and investigative activity. The VT-SSK Learjet 45 aircraft crashed while attempting to land at Baramati on Wednesday morning, killing all five people on board and plunging Maharashtra politics into sudden uncertainty.
According to initial information, the aircraft went down during the landing phase, a stage considered critical in aviation operations. Emergency response teams rushed to the site, but there were no survivors. In the aftermath of the crash, the Maharashtra Government ordered a detailed probe, assigning the investigation to the state’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID). Officials said the CID will examine all possible angles, including technical failure, human error, and external factors, as investigators work to reconstruct the final moments of the flight.

The tragedy has been compounded by the emergence of a new video circulating on social media, which allegedly shows the aircraft descending moments before the crash. The footage has fuelled speculation and led to at least three competing theories, ranging from mechanical malfunction to adverse landing conditions. Authorities, however, have urged restraint, warning against drawing conclusions before the investigation is complete.
Beyond the aviation inquiry, the crash has triggered a political whirlwind in Maharashtra. Ajit Pawar’s sudden death has left the Nationalist Congress Party scrambling to manage leadership uncertainty, with allies and rivals alike reassessing the balance of power within the ruling coalition.
As the CID probe gets underway, officials have said that forensic analysis, flight data, maintenance records, and eyewitness accounts will be examined thoroughly. The state government has assured a transparent investigation, while political leaders across party lines have expressed condolences, marking one of the most dramatic and consequential tragedies in Maharashtra’s recent political history.
