AIU Urges Varsities To Address Student Concerns Before Protests Escalate
AIU issues advisory on student protests and counselling
The Association of Indian Universities (AIU) has urged vice-chancellors and directors of member institutions to counsel students against participating in protests and encourage them to remain focused on their academic pursuits. The appeal comes amid ongoing student demonstrations in Delhi over recent controversies related to national-level entrance examinations. In a communication to heads of AIU member universities, the organisation advised institutions to guide students and ensure that their concerns are addressed through appropriate channels.
The AIU said students should not allow their time and energy to be diverted by calls for protests and should continue prioritising their education. The AIU president said the government has already initiated steps to address concerns surrounding the examination process. The organisation emphasised that efforts are being made to strengthen the credibility, transparency and reliability of national-level examinations. The advisory comes at a time when student groups have been holding protests in the national capital over alleged irregularities and concerns related to entrance examinations.
Demonstrators have demanded accountability and reforms to ensure a fair and transparent examination system for students across the country. The AIU, which represents universities and higher education institutions in India, said academic institutions have an important role in guiding students during such situations. It encouraged university authorities to maintain communication with students and help them understand the measures being taken by authorities to address their concerns.
