Air India Enters Global Top 10 Airlines List For On-Time Performance In June

Air India ranks among world's most punctual airlines.

Air India has emerged as the only Indian airline to feature among the world’s top five most punctual carriers, securing the fourth position in aviation analytics firm Cirium’s June 2026 On-Time Performance Report. The ranking highlights the airline’s recent improvements in schedule reliability, operational efficiency and flight execution across its domestic and international network. According to the report, Air India recorded an on-time arrival rate of 86.85 per cent across 15,135 tracked flights during June 2026. The airline also achieved an on-time departure rate of 86.23 per cent and reported a completion factor of 99.7 per cent, indicating that almost all scheduled flights were successfully operated during the period.

The performance placed Air India among the leading global carriers for punctuality, making it the only Indian airline to enter the top five rankings. The airline narrowly missed out on the third position, which was secured by Mexico’s Aeromexico with an on-time arrival rate of 86.94 per cent. The difference between the two airlines was less than one percentage point. Saudi Arabia’s Saudia topped the global rankings with an on-time arrival performance of 92.38 per cent, followed by South Korea’s Korean Air in second place with 88.56 per cent. Air India’s performance placed it ahead of several major international carriers monitored in the monthly assessment.

Air India said the ranking reflected its continued focus on improving operational resilience and strengthening its overall service network. In a statement, the airline attributed the achievement to investments in operational planning, improved coordination and better execution of domestic and international flight schedules. The report comes as Air India continues a major transformation programme following its acquisition by the Tata Group in 2022. The airline has been working to modernise its fleet, improve passenger experience, expand international connectivity and strengthen operational systems as part of its long-term growth strategy.

Punctuality has become an important measure of airline performance globally, with travellers increasingly prioritising reliable schedules alongside factors such as pricing, connectivity and onboard services. Aviation analysts track on-time performance to assess how effectively airlines manage aircraft utilisation, airport coordination, maintenance schedules and operational disruptions. Air India’s improved ranking represents a significant shift from earlier years when the airline faced criticism over delays, service quality issues and operational challenges.

The carrier has undertaken several measures to improve efficiency, including fleet expansion, technology upgrades, process improvements and greater focus on network planning. The airline’s latest performance comes amid growing competition in India’s aviation sector, one of the fastest-growing air travel markets in the world. Indian carriers have been expanding capacity to meet rising passenger demand, while also facing challenges related to airport congestion, weather disruptions and infrastructure constraints.

While the Cirium report reflects Air India’s performance during June 2026, aviation experts note that maintaining high punctuality levels consistently across seasons remains a key challenge for airlines. Weather conditions, airport capacity and unexpected operational disruptions can significantly impact flight schedules. The ranking provides a boost to Air India’s efforts to rebuild its global reputation and position itself as a leading international carrier. The airline said it would continue investing in operational improvements to enhance reliability and deliver a better travel experience for passengers.
