Air India Crash: Expert Team From U.S. Heads To India to Investigate Crash

U.S. Experts Jet to India to Probe Devastating Air India Crash

In the wake of the tragic Air India Flight AI171 crash in Ahmedabad, the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) announced it will dispatch a team of investigators to assist India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) in unraveling the cause of the disaster.

The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, carrying 242 passengers and crew, plummeted shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on Thursday, bound for London Gatwick, marking the first fatal incident in the Dreamliner’s history.

The ill-fated flight included 169 Indian, 53 British, one Canadian, and seven Portuguese nationals. The crash, which sent shockwaves through a residential area, resulted in significant loss of life, including local residents. A distress call and a mere 625-foot climb before the fiery impact have left investigators grappling with questions of mechanical failure, environmental factors, or human error.

The NTSB, adhering to International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) protocols, will support India’s AAIB, which leads the investigation. The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) stands ready to provide technical expertise, emphasizing its role in international aviation safety. Boeing, the aircraft’s manufacturer, issued a statement expressing condolences and pledging support to Air India. “Our hearts are with the passengers, crew, and all affected by this tragedy,” the company said.

U.S. Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi, visibly shaken, called the crash “heartbreaking” and urged a thorough probe to prevent future calamities. As the black box recovery offers hope for answers, global attention remains fixed on Ahmedabad, where first responders and investigators work tirelessly.

The investigation will scrutinize flight data and cockpit recordings to piece together the final moments of AI171. With the world watching, the joint U.S.-India effort aims to deliver clarity and closure to a grieving international community. Official updates, per ICAO rules, will come solely from the Indian government.
