Air India Confirms: Fuel Control Switches Safe Across Entire Boeing 787 Fleet

Air India fleet checks clear Boeing 787 fuel switches.

Air India has said that a re-inspection of Fuel Control Switches (FCS) across its operational Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet found no issues, following scrutiny from the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) over a recent aircraft incident. The airline’s statement comes after questions were raised about how a Dreamliner that was later grounded in India for safety checks was able to depart London despite concerns over a potentially faulty fuel switch.

The issue surfaced after the aircraft arrived in India and was subjected to precautionary inspections. According to Air India, both fuel control switches on the aircraft were examined and found to be functioning satisfactorily. The airline added that similar checks were subsequently carried out across all its operational Boeing 787 aircraft to rule out any systemic concerns.

Responding to queries, the UK Civil Aviation Authority said it was standard regulatory practice to seek information from airlines following any aircraft-related incident. In a statement, the CAA noted that such requests are part of routine safety assurance procedures and are aimed at ensuring continued compliance with international aviation safety standards, rather than indicating a confirmed fault or lapse.

Air India emphasized that it operates its fleet in line with prescribed safety protocols and works closely with aviation regulators in India and overseas. The airline said inspections and reporting are conducted as required, and any technical observations are addressed promptly to maintain operational safety.

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner is a wide-body, long-haul aircraft widely used by airlines around the world. Fuel control switches play a critical role in managing engine fuel flow, making their reliability essential for safe flight operations. Aviation experts note that even suspected issues with such components are typically handled with heightened caution by airlines and regulators alike.

For now, regulators have not issued any directives restricting Air India’s Boeing 787 operations. The airline continues to operate its Dreamliner fleet as scheduled, stating that passenger safety remains its highest priority while regulatory reviews and standard follow-up processes continue.
