Air India Bengaluru–Delhi Flight Lands Safely After Engine Fire Indication
Air India flight safely lands in Delhi after engine fire warning alert.
An Air India aircraft operating from Bengaluru to Delhi made an emergency landing at Delhi airport on Thursday evening after the cockpit crew reported a suspected engine fire during its final approach. The airline confirmed that all 160 passengers and crew on board were safe and disembarked normally after the aircraft landed without further incident.
According to Air India, the Airbus A320 operating flight AI2802 encountered a fire warning indication from one of its engines as it prepared to land in Delhi. The airline stated that the cockpit crew followed all standard operating procedures upon receiving the alert, and the aircraft was brought down safely. The indication was later confirmed to be valid, though officials noted that the exact nature and extent of the issue were still under verification.
Preliminary information suggests that the aircraft experienced a technical alert shortly before touchdown, prompting immediate precautionary measures. A source familiar with the matter, however, said it had not yet been conclusively established whether an actual engine fire had occurred or whether it was triggered by a sensor malfunction. Flight tracking data from Flightradar24 indicated that the aircraft landed at approximately 9:30 pm.

Air India said it has initiated a detailed investigation into the incident in coordination with aviation regulators and technical experts. The airline added that it remains committed to determining the cause of the warning and will share verified updates as the inquiry progresses. Authorities are expected to examine the aircraft’s engines, maintenance records and flight data as part of the probe.
The incident comes on a day when another Air India aircraft was also grounded for inspection after suffering a tail strike during landing at Bengaluru airport earlier on Thursday morning. That aircraft, an Airbus A321 operating flight AI2651 from Delhi to Bengaluru, was carrying 181 passengers at the time. The consecutive technical incidents have drawn attention to operational safety checks and maintenance protocols within the airline’s narrow-body fleet.
Aviation officials are expected to review both events as part of routine safety oversight, while passengers from the affected flights have been accommodated or rescheduled by the airline. Further findings from the investigation into the suspected engine fire are awaited.
