Air Chief Demands Battle-Ready Eastern Command Amid Threats
IAF chief stresses vigilance, synergy at EAC Conference.
Air Chief Marshal A P Singh emphasized the critical role of the Indian Air Force’s Eastern Air Command (EAC) in safeguarding India’s northern and eastern frontiers, urging commanders to maintain peak preparedness and foster seamless coordination with other armed forces. Speaking at the EAC Commanders’ Conference in Shillong, held from August 27 to 30, Singh highlighted the need for a unified approach to counter emerging security challenges in the region.
“The Eastern Air Command is pivotal in securing our borders. We must remain vigilant and ready to respond to any situation,” Singh declared during his address on August 28 and 29 at the EAC headquarters. He stressed the importance of “jointness,” noting that future threats require integrated operations with the Army and Navy to ensure effective defense across India’s volatile northeastern and northern borders.
Upon arrival, Singh was welcomed by Air Marshal Surat Singh, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of EAC, and received a ceremonial guard of honour. He engaged with commanders and senior officers, discussing operational strategies and readiness. Singh also recognized outstanding performance by presenting trophies to Air Force stations excelling in operations, maintenance, and administration, reinforcing the command’s commitment to excellence.

Beyond strategic discussions, Singh connected with the community, interacting with students from Air Force School, Kendriya Vidyalaya, and UMEED Vidya Kiran School in Upper Shillong on Friday. His engagement underscored the IAF’s role in fostering education and community ties in the region.
The conference provided a platform to review EAC’s operational capabilities, address regional security dynamics, and align strategies with national defense priorities. As India faces evolving geopolitical challenges, Singh’s call for preparedness and synergy signals a robust approach to safeguarding the nation’s eastern frontiers.
