Accident on Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway Injures 8
Luxury bus slams into truck, leaving passengers shaken.
A private luxury bus traveling from Mumbai to Ahmedabad crashed into a truck on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway in Maharashtra’s Palghar district, injuring eight passengers on Sunday afternoon. The accident, which occurred near Kasa, has raised fresh concerns about road safety on one of India’s busiest highways.
According to Inspector Avinash Mandale of Kasa police station, the bus rammed into the rear of a truck moving ahead of it, causing a violent collision. “The impact was significant, but thankfully, all eight injured passengers sustained only minor injuries,” Mandale said. The injured, all male passengers, were promptly taken to Kasa sub-district hospital for treatment. After receiving medical care, they were discharged, with no reports of critical injuries.
The incident disrupted traffic on the highway, a critical artery connecting Mumbai to Gujarat and facilitating the movement of thousands of commuters, tourists, and goods daily. Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene as emergency responders rushed to assist the passengers and clear the wreckage. The bus, a luxury vehicle catering to long-distance travelers, sustained visible damage, while the truck involved in the crash was also inspected by authorities.

Police have registered a case against the bus driver under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Motor Vehicles Act, citing preliminary findings that suggest negligence or rash driving may have contributed to the accident. “Investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the collision, including whether speed, distraction, or road conditions played a role,” Mandale added. The driver is cooperating with authorities, and further inquiries will include examining the bus’s maintenance records and the driver’s adherence to traffic regulations.
The Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway, part of National Highway 48, is notorious for heavy traffic and occasional accidents, often attributed to high speeds, overloading, or poor road discipline. This incident has reignited calls from local residents and commuters for stricter enforcement of traffic rules and improved infrastructure to prevent such mishaps. “This highway is a lifeline, but it’s also a danger zone if drivers aren’t careful,” said a local shopkeeper near Kasa.
Authorities have urged drivers to exercise caution, especially during peak travel hours, and to adhere to speed limits and safety protocols. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for vigilance on India’s highways, where accidents can have far-reaching consequences for travelers and their families. As the investigation continues, officials are working to ensure such incidents are minimized through better monitoring and awareness campaigns.
