Aadhaar Photo Change: No Limit On Updates, UIDAI Clarifies Process And Fee
UIDAI allows unlimited Aadhaar photograph updates at enrolment centres.
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) does not impose a fixed limit on the number of times an Aadhaar holder can update their photograph. People who are dissatisfied with their existing picture can request a new one by visiting an Aadhaar centre, where the photograph is captured as part of the biometric update process.
Unlike some Aadhaar details that may have specific update requirements, there is no prescribed maximum number of photo changes. However, the update cannot be completed entirely online because a fresh photograph and biometric verification are required at an Aadhaar centre. Applicants must therefore visit an authorised Aadhaar Seva Kendra or enrolment and update centre to submit the request.
At the centre, the applicant is required to fill out the Aadhaar update form and undergo biometric authentication. A new photograph is then captured using the camera available at the centre. Once the request is processed and approved, the new photograph is incorporated into the Aadhaar record. The updated Aadhaar can subsequently be downloaded once the changes have been processed.

UIDAI's photo-update process is designed to ensure that the photograph belongs to the person requesting the change. This is why physical presence and biometric verification are required. Applicants should also retain the acknowledgement or update request details provided by the centre so they can track the status of their request if necessary.
A fee may be applicable for the demographic or biometric update service, depending on the type of update and the applicable UIDAI fee schedule. Applicants should check the current charges at the authorised centre or on UIDAI's official website before submitting a request, as fees and service rules can be revised.
If an Aadhaar update request is rejected or an applicant faces difficulty with the process, a complaint can be raised through UIDAI's grievance-redressal channels. Users can also contact UIDAI through its official helpline or seek assistance from a regional office. Since Aadhaar-related procedures can change, applicants should rely on UIDAI's official information when checking the latest requirements, fees and update status.
