Aadhaar App Launches Email Update Feature With Free Six-Month Service
Aadhaar app adds email update feature with limited free period.
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced a new feature allowing residents to add or update their email ID directly through the Aadhaar App, in a move aimed at enhancing digital convenience and reducing dependence on physical Aadhaar centres. The initiative has been launched under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and is designed to make Aadhaar-related services more accessible to users across the country.
According to an official statement, the email update facility will be available free of cost exclusively through the Aadhaar App for a period of six months starting July 1, 2026. During this time, users will not need to visit Aadhaar enrolment centres to make changes to their registered email IDs. Officials said the service is intended to simplify the update process and improve overall user experience.
UIDAI highlighted that the response to the new feature has been strong, with more than 2.5 lakh users updating their email IDs within just two days of the launch. The Aadhaar App, which is available on both Android and iOS platforms, is part of the government’s broader push toward digital governance and streamlined identity services for residents.

The new feature also strengthens communication between UIDAI and Aadhaar holders by enabling real-time email notifications whenever an Aadhaar authentication request is made. Officials said this enhancement will help users stay informed about the usage of their identity data, thereby improving transparency and security in Aadhaar-linked transactions.
In addition to email updates, the Aadhaar App already allows users to carry out several other services such as mobile number updates and address modifications. UIDAI stated that over 40 million users have updated their mobile numbers through the app so far, while around one million have used it to update their addresses. The authority has urged residents to take advantage of the free email update facility during the limited-time window to ensure their Aadhaar records remain accurate and up to date.
