A BLUEPRINT FOR THE WORLD!! Karnataka’s Model Gains Global Attention, Says Governor
He described the Karnataka model as a people-centric framework blending economic, social, and cultural governance, spotlighting initiatives like green energy and women’s empowerment.
Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot hailed the state’s innovative development model as a global benchmark during his address to the joint legislative session at Vidhana Soudha on Monday. He described the Karnataka model as a people-centric framework blending economic, social, and cultural governance, spotlighting initiatives like green energy and women’s empowerment. “This unique model is being studied by economists and universities worldwide,” Gehlot said, citing Oxford University’s Human Rights Hub, which dubbed it “A Blueprint for the World,” and a visit from the UN head praising its programs.
Defending the state’s welfare schemes, Gehlot countered critics who warned of financial ruin, asserting, “The government has proven these predictions false.” He highlighted Karnataka’s robust economic indicators: a 13% revenue growth in 2024-25, reaching Rs 1,81,908 crore by December, and a 12% rise in GST collections, making it the second-highest GST contributor among states. Foreign direct investment is surging, and inequality is waning due to welfare programs, he added, noting a significant drop in farmer suicides.
The Governor underscored the fiscal commitment to welfare, with Rs 52,000 crore annually allocated to five guarantee schemes—transferring Rs 70,000 crore directly to citizens since the government took office. Over Rs 90,000 crore supports 1.25 crore families through cash transfers and subsidies. Gehlot tied these efforts to India’s Constitution, emphasizing equitable income distribution and rejecting “Social Darwinism.”
On law and order, he claimed stability over the past 19 months, with police adopting a people-friendly approach and tackling rising cybercrime. The state aims to become a $1 trillion economy, focusing on healthcare, education, and sustainable agriculture, while pressing the Centre to greenlight pending irrigation projects.
The opposition BJP, however, slammed the address as “a pure lie.” State president B.Y. Vijayendra accused the government of stalling development, while Leader of Opposition R. Ashoka branded it a “zero government.” Despite the criticism, Gehlot’s speech painted Karnataka as a thriving, globally recognized model of progress.
