8-Year-Old Boy Brings Mother's Body to Hospital All Alone in Heartbreaking Scene

8-year-old boy alone takes his mother's body to hospital for autopsy after her death from HIV complications.

In Etah, Uttar Pradesh, an eight-year-old boy named Shani captured hearts with his poignant cry, "There's no one with me," as he alone accompanied his mother Neelam Devi's (40) body to the morgue for postmortem on Thursday. Neelam succumbed to HIV-related complications at Virangana Avantibai Medical College, leaving Shani as her sole companion during her final moments. Jalesar Circle Officer (CO) Ritesh Thakur detailed how the boy, overwhelmed and tearful, handled the grim formalities without any relatives present.

Neelam had battled the infection for nearly a month, initially seeking treatment at her parental home in Farrukhabad before her condition worsened. Five days prior, she returned to her native Nagla Dheeraj village under Jethra police station and was rushed to the Etah medical college, where she passed away early Thursday. Her husband Surendra had died eight months earlier from the same HIV affliction, plunging the family into deeper crisis amid their extreme poverty.

Hospital staff alerted police, who rushed to assist Shani with inquest proceedings and legalities. The boy revealed he had no contact details for relatives; his 15-year-old sister Rakhi stays with maternal grandparents in Farrukhabad's Narayanpur village. Shani broke down at the morgue, alleging uncles threatened him over a land dispute, though CO Thakur dismissed immediate dangers, noting they reside in Delhi.

Through villagers, Neelam's father and in-laws were informed and arrived post-news. Chief Medical Officer Dr. Rajendra Prasad confirmed both parents were HIV-positive, cautioning that the children's status requires testing, especially if Neelam was infected during childbirth. Police orchestrated the last rites, cremating Neelam around 1 PM amid family, villagers, and officials.

With no earning members left, Shani and Rakhi now rely on maternal relatives for support. The incident highlights gaps in social welfare for vulnerable HIV-affected families in rural India, prompting calls for child protection and medical aid. Authorities assure ongoing monitoring to safeguard the orphans.
