73 Taps Stolen From Congress Office; Thieves Leave "Love You" Note in Dust
Thieves steal 73 steel taps from a Congress office in Chhattisgarh, leaving behind an I love you note in dust.
A theft at the Congress district office in Chhattisgarh’s Surguja district has sparked political criticism and renewed concerns over law and order after dozens of steel taps were allegedly stolen from the premises. The incident took place at Rajiv Bhawan in Ambikapur, where party leaders claimed that at least 73 steel faucets were removed from washrooms and other facilities inside the building. The unusual case drew further attention after the accused reportedly left behind an “I love you” message scribbled in dust on the floor before fleeing the scene.
Visuals from the Congress office showed damaged restroom facilities, including broken basins, flush tanks and scattered faucet pipes lying across the premises. The condition of the washrooms suggested extensive vandalism during the theft, with several fixtures appearing to have been forcibly removed. Party workers expressed shock over the scale of the incident, especially because the office is considered an important political centre in the district and frequently hosts organisational meetings and public interactions.
District Congress chief Balkrishna Pathak alleged that anti-social elements or drug addicts could be responsible for the theft. He criticized the local police administration and questioned the prevailing security situation in the state. Pathak claimed that this was the third incident of theft reported at Rajiv Bhawan and said repeated occurrences indicated serious lapses in policing and surveillance. He described the situation as alarming and urged authorities to take stricter action to prevent similar crimes in the future.

According to party leaders, the theft has not only caused financial losses but also damaged public property maintained for political and social activities. Congress workers said the repeated targeting of the office has created insecurity among staff and visitors. The strange “I love you” note left behind by the thieves added an unusual twist to the case and quickly became a talking point on social media, with many users reacting to the bizarre nature of the incident.
Police officials have not yet released detailed information regarding suspects or arrests connected to the theft. Investigators are expected to examine CCTV footage and gather evidence from the premises to identify those involved. Local authorities may also assess whether the stolen taps and fixtures were intended for resale in scrap markets or whether the incident was linked to substance abuse and petty theft activities in the region, as alleged by Congress leaders.
The incident has once again triggered political debate in Chhattisgarh over public safety and crime management. Opposition leaders have used the theft to question the effectiveness of law enforcement agencies, while residents in the area have also raised concerns about rising incidents of theft and vandalism. As investigations continue, party workers are demanding enhanced security measures at Rajiv Bhawan and swift action against those responsible for the repeated break-ins at the Congress office.
