30 Crore Workers Set to Shut Down India Tomorrow – Banks and Transport Face Major Disruptions
Bharat Bandh tomorrow disrupts banks, transport and services as 30 crore workers protest new labour codes.
India is bracing for a nationwide shutdown on February 12, as over 30 crore workers are expected to join the Bharat Bandh, called by a coalition of 10 central trade unions. The protest is aimed at opposing the four new labour codes introduced in 2025, which the unions claim weaken worker protections and undermine job security.
Public sector banks, government offices, markets, and public transport are likely to face significant disruptions across the country. Shops and commercial establishments in major cities may remain closed, while road blockades could affect bus and metro services, creating widespread travel inconveniences.
Despite the strike, neither the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) nor major banks have declared a holiday. Branch operations may be partially disrupted, with delays expected at public sector banks. Online banking and ATMs are likely to function, though minor interruptions cannot be ruled out. Private banks may operate normally, depending on location.

The strike is backed by prominent unions including INTUC, AITUC, HMS, CITU, AIUTUC, TUCC, SEWA, AICCTU, LPF, and UTUC. Their key demands include the repeal of the four labour codes, withdrawal of the Draft Seed Bill, the Electricity Amendment Bill, and the SHANTI Act, along with the reinstatement of MGNREGA and scrapping of the Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Act, 2025.
Farmer groups are also expected to join the rallies across multiple states, potentially intensifying the protests. Authorities are gearing up for large-scale demonstrations and ensuring that emergency services and hospitals continue to operate without disruption.
Citizens are advised to plan ahead for travel, banking, and essential services on Feb. 12, as the strike could impact daily life across several sectors. While private offices, airports, and medical facilities are likely to remain functional, disruptions in public services could create significant inconvenience for the general public.
