3 Engineering Students Die as SUV Overturns in Gujarat
Engineering students’ holiday trip ends in deadly accident.
A devastating accident claimed the lives of three engineering students and left eight others injured when their rented SUV overturned on a state highway in Gujarat’s Rajkot district early Saturday morning. The tragic incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. near Jangvad village in Jasdan taluka, as a group of 12 students from RK University in Rajkot were en route to the coastal town of Diu for a holiday getaway, police reported.
The deceased were identified as Naresh Kodavati (19), Mothi Harsha (17), and Afrid Syed (17), all hailing from Andhra Pradesh, according to Inspector R S Sakaria of Atkot police station. The SUV, driven by one of the students, lost control at a sharp bend on the highway, causing it to overturn with catastrophic consequences. “The vehicle flipped after the driver failed to navigate the turn, resulting in the immediate deaths of three students,” Sakaria told PTI.
Of the eight injured students, two sustained fractures but were treated and discharged from a local hospital. The remaining injured are receiving medical care, with authorities closely monitoring their conditions. The bodies of the deceased were transported to Rajkot Civil Hospital for postmortem examinations, and an investigation has been launched to determine the exact circumstances of the crash, including potential factors like road conditions, speed, or driver error.
