At least three people, including a private company manager, were killed on the spot and two others sustained serious injuries after a car crashed into a roadside tree in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich district in the early hours of Monday, police officials said. The accident occurred around 4 am near Semrahna village on the Nanpara–Lakhimpur highway, under the jurisdiction of Motipur police station.
According to preliminary police findings, all five occupants of the car were travelling from Balrampur district to Neem Karoli Dham in Uttarakhand for a religious visit. The vehicle was reportedly being driven at a high speed when the driver lost control, causing the car to veer off the road and ram into a tree with tremendous force. The impact was so severe that the car was completely mangled.
Local residents, alerted by the loud crash, rushed to the scene and informed the police. With the help of locals, police personnel managed to pull the occupants out of the wreckage. Three passengers were declared dead at the scene, while the remaining two were found in critical condition and rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.
The deceased were identified as Abhishek Shukla, a manager in a private company and a resident of Ghusah village in Balrampur district, Deepu Verma, and Nitish Singh. The injured, Lavkush Sharma and Ajay Sharma, were later referred to Bahraich Medical College due to the seriousness of their injuries, police said.
Motipur police station in-charge Anand Chaurasia confirmed that the bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem examination and their families have been informed. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances leading to the accident, including the role of speeding and road conditions.
