How Did Dense Fog Turn a Techie’s Drive Home Into a 90-Minute Tragedy?

27-year-old techie Yuvraj Mehta trapped in water-filled ditch for 90 minutes; dense fog foils rescue.

A 90-minute ordeal marked by dense fog, helpless phone calls, and a failed rescue ended in tragedy for 27-year-old software engineer Yuvraj Mehta, whose car plunged into a water-filled ditch late Friday night while he was returning home from work.

Yuvraj was driving from his Gurugram office to Noida around midnight when poor visibility caused by heavy fog led his car to skid into a ditch at an under-construction site. Just minutes away from reaching home, he managed to call his father, Rajkumar Mehta, seeking urgent help as the vehicle began to sink.

In a desperate attempt to save his son, Rajkumar alerted the police and rushed to the spot. Emergency responders, including police personnel and firefighters, reached the area but struggled to carry out the rescue due to low visibility, darkness, and the waterlogged terrain. Despite repeated efforts, they were unable to extract Yuvraj from the submerged car.

After nearly 90 minutes trapped inside the vehicle, Yuvraj went down with the car. His body was recovered several hours later, turning a frantic rescue attempt into a fatal outcome that has shaken the family and the local community.

The incident has raised serious questions about road safety, inadequate barricading at construction sites, and the preparedness of emergency response systems in the National Capital Region, especially during extreme weather conditions. Authorities are expected to examine lapses in safety measures and response coordination following the tragedy.
