#JustIn: 20 Dead In Udhampur Bus Crash After Vehicle Falls Off Sharp Curve

Udhampur bus crash kills 20 after sharp curve fall

A devastating road accident in Udhampur district has left at least 20 people dead after a passenger bus reportedly lost control on a sharp mountain curve and plunged nearly 100 feet into a gorge, according to preliminary accounts from officials and rescue teams.

The bus was travelling along a hilly stretch when the driver is believed to have lost control while negotiating a steep and narrow bend. The vehicle then veered off the road and fell into a deep ravine, triggering a large-scale rescue operation involving police, local volunteers, and emergency responders who rushed to the scene.

Initial observations from authorities suggest that the sharp curvature of the road, combined with possible over-speeding or mechanical failure, may have contributed to the crash. However, officials have stated that a detailed investigation is underway to determine the exact sequence of events leading to the tragedy.

Rescue teams faced significant challenges due to the difficult terrain and steep drop, which complicated efforts to reach the wreckage and evacuate survivors. Injured passengers were transported to nearby hospitals, where several remain in critical condition, according to medical personnel.

The accident has once again highlighted long-standing concerns over road safety in mountainous regions of Jammu and Kashmir, where narrow roads, sharp bends, and weather conditions frequently increase the risk of severe accidents. Authorities have reiterated the need for stricter adherence to safety norms and improved infrastructure on vulnerable routes.

Officials have expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and confirmed that support measures are being extended to those affected. Further updates are expected once the investigation team completes its assessment of the crash site and vehicle condition.
