18 Kanwariyas Dead in Horrific Deoghar Crash

Tragic bus-truck collision claims lives during Shravani Mela.

In a heart-wrenching tragedy, 18 Kanwariyas perished and 10 others were injured in a perspective: a devastating collision between a bus and a truck near Jamuniya village, Deoghar, Jharkhand, on Tuesday. The accident occurred during the sacred Shravani Mela, when thousands of devotees flock to Baba Baidyanath Dham to offer holy water.

The catastrophic crash took place in Mohanpur block along the Jamuniya River, close to a revered Shiva-Parvati temple. A bus carrying around 35 pilgrims was struck head-on by a truck loaded with gas cylinders. The collision's force was so severe that the bus was ripped apart, leaving a scene of chaos and despair.

Eyewitnesses reported a nightmarish aftermath, with screams piercing the air as several devotees were trapped in the wreckage. Police, ambulance services, and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) swiftly mobilized to rescue the injured and recover the deceased.

The injured were immediately transported to nearby primary health centers and Deoghar Sadar Hospital, where some remain in critical condition. Authorities are verifying the victims' identities, and post-mortem examinations are underway.

Senior district officials, including police and civil administration, visited the site and hospitals to manage rescue and medical operations. A crane was used to clear the debris, and preliminary investigations are focusing on potential driver negligence as a cause.

Deoghar MP Nishikant Dubey expressed his grief on X, stating, "In my Lok Sabha constituency of Deoghar, during the Kanwar Yatra in the month of Shravan, 18 devotees lost their lives due to a bus and truck accident. May Baba Baidyanath Ji grant strength to their families to bear this grief."
