VCK Extends Support To TVK, Strengthening Vijay’s Position In Tamil Nadu Politics
VCK backing strengthens Vijay and TVK’s Tamil Nadu political prospects.
Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi on Saturday extended unconditional support to Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, potentially clearing the final obstacle for actor-turned-politician C Joseph Vijay to form the next government in Tamil Nadu. The development significantly strengthens TVK’s numbers in the Assembly following a fractured electoral verdict.
In separate letters addressed to Governor Rajendra Arlekar, VCK president Thol Thirumavalavan and legislature party leader Vanni Arasu formally confirmed the support of the party’s two MLAs for Vijay’s claim to power. The support is expected to help TVK cross the majority mark required to form the government.
The VCK stated that its decision was taken “in the interest of stable and democratic governance for the people of Tamil Nadu.” In his communication, Vanni Arasu said the support was being extended under the direction of party president Thirumavalavan and requested the Governor to officially take the backing on record.

In a separate letter, Thol Thirumavalavan reiterated the party’s support and formally conveyed that both VCK MLAs would back the TVK-led government formation process. The announcement came after days of intense political negotiations and speculation over the party’s final stand.
The support from VCK is politically significant because Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam had been short of the majority mark despite emerging as the single-largest party in the Assembly elections. Vijay’s attempts to secure backing from other smaller parties, including the IUML and AMMK, had earlier failed, increasing the importance of VCK’s decision.
The latest development marks a major turning point in Tamil Nadu politics, potentially paving the way for C Joseph Vijay to become chief minister in his first major electoral outing. The Governor is now expected to review the letters of support and decide on inviting TVK to formally stake claim to form the government.
