Investigators probing the deadly car bomb explosion near Delhi's iconic Red Fort on November 10, 2025, have uncovered a sophisticated five-phase plot by a Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terror module to unleash coordinated blasts at six to seven locations across the National Capital Region (NCR) on December 6—the anniversary of the 1992 Babri Masjid demolition in Ayodhya. The attack, which killed 13 people and injured over 20 others in a busy traffic junction near the Red Fort Metro Station, was allegedly executed in desperation by Dr. Umar Mohammad, a 36-year-old Kashmiri doctor from Pulwama who drove the explosives-laden Hyundai i20 vehicle.

According to intelligence sources, the plot's symbolic timing was explicitly chosen to "avenge the Babri Masjid demolition," a grievance JeM has long exploited to radicalize recruits and justify violence against India. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over the case, classifying it as a terrorist incident, with arrests and seizures exposing a "white-collar" network of radicalized professionals, including doctors and clerics, operating under JeM handlers.

The foiled conspiracy, linked to JeM and its offshoot Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGuH), unfolded in meticulous stages as revealed through interrogations of eight suspects arrested since mid-October, including doctors Mujammil Shakeel, Adil Rather, and Shaheen Saeed from Al-Falah University in Faridabad, Haryana. Phase one involved forming the module via encrypted Telegram channels, drawing in educated individuals from Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh for their ability to evade profiling. Phase two focused on procuring raw materials like ammonium nitrate from suppliers in Nuh and Gurugram, culminating in the seizure of 2,900 kilograms of explosives—enough for multiple high-impact devices—during raids on November 7.

Phase three encompassed manufacturing chemical IEDs and conducting reconnaissance of NCR targets, while phase four distributed the bombs among operatives. The final phase, delayed from an initial August target due to logistical hurdles, was set for December 6 to maximize symbolic impact. Dr. Umar, who purchased the i20 on October 29 and loaded it post-arrests, panicked and triggered the premature blast after three hours of surveillance in central Delhi, as traced by CCTV from over 50 locations.

JeM's fixation on the Babri Masjid stems from the mosque's demolition by Hindu kar sevaks on December 6, 1992, at the disputed Ram Janmabhoomi site, an event that ignited widespread communal riots and profoundly shaped the group's ideology. Founder Maulana Masood Azhar, released in a 1999 hijacking swap and designated a global terrorist by the UN in 2019, has repeatedly invoked the incident in propaganda, vowing in weekly columns and rare speeches to "liberate" the site and target Ayodhya.

In a 2024 address—his first public appearance in two decades—Azhar lamented, "Tell me, are there not even 300 people who can fight to reclaim my Babri Masjid?" urging jihad against India. This rhetoric, amplified through JeM's Sadāʾ-e Mujāhid magazine and online forums, has fueled attacks like the 2001 Parliament assault and 2019 Pulwama bombing, framing the Babri episode as a call to pan-Indian insurgency beyond Kashmir. The Supreme Court's 2019 verdict awarding the site for a Ram Temple, with construction completing in 2025, has only intensified such threats from Pakistan-based outfits sheltered despite international bans.

The "doctor module" represents a chilling evolution in JeM's tactics, leveraging professionals' access and mobility to stockpile arms and finance operations, with at least six radicalized physicians implicated across states. Coordinated by a Shopian-based cleric, Irfan Ahmed Waghey, in touch with JeM handler Umar bin Khattab, the network sourced funds via digital wallets and assembled IEDs in urban hideouts, evading detection until Srinagar's JeM posters in October triggered a multi-agency crackdown by J&K, Haryana, UP, and NIA teams. Nine more arrests in Kanpur followed, yielding firearms and ricin precursors, while the blast's ammonium nitrate signature mirrors global threats like the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Delhi CM Rekha Gupta condemned the attack, vowing justice, as security ramps up NCR-wide with NSG deployments. The module's exposure underscores vulnerabilities in radicalization among elites, potentially averting a far deadlier assault amid JeM's resurgence post-Taliban ties in Afghanistan.
