Iran Says Two-Year Strategy Ready To Withstand New US Sanctions Pressure

Iranian Economy Minister Ali Madanizadeh said Monday that Tehran has prepared a two-year plan to manage the impact of new US sanctions, predicting what he described as another defeat for Washington. His comments came as Iran faces renewed economic pressure from the United States and seeks to reassure the public that the government has prepared measures to deal with the latest restrictions. Madanizadeh said the Iranian government had anticipated the possibility of further US sanctions and had been preparing for such measures.

Speaking to state television, he argued that previous attempts by Washington to pressure Iran had failed to force the country to change its position. He said the latest measures would similarly fail to weaken the determination of the Iranian people or the Iranian authorities. “They have done everything they could to test the determination of the Iranian people and the country's officials, but they have failed every time,” Madanizadeh said. He added that Washington appeared to be heading toward what he called “yet another defeat” in its efforts to pressure Tehran through economic measures.

The minister said the government had been expecting the new US measures for a considerable period and was prepared to respond. “We've been waiting for these plans for a long time,” he said, adding that the government “is and was ready” and had developed a two-year plan to manage the consequences of the sanctions. He did not publicly provide detailed information about the measures included in the plan.
