“I Am Being Harassed”: Sarabjeet Kaur’s Viral Audio Plea from Pakistan
Indian Sikh woman’s distress call after Pakistan marriage sparks concerns.
A viral audio clip purportedly featuring Sarabjeet Kaur, a 48-year-old Sikh woman from Punjab’s Kapurthala district, has ignited widespread concern on social media. In the over-one-minute recording, she is heard pleading for help to return to India, repeatedly stating, “I am being harassed here.” The clip, which remains unverified by independent sources, appears to be a conversation with her former husband, Karnail Singh, who resides in the United Kingdom. Sarabjeet expresses deep regret over her situation, claiming mental harassment, blackmail, and dire financial straits after her stay in Pakistan extended beyond her pilgrimage visa.
Sarabjeet travelled to Pakistan on November 4, 2025, as part of a large Sikh jatha visiting gurdwaras around Nankana Sahib for Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Prakash Gurpurab. While over 2,000 pilgrims returned home, she went missing shortly after arrival. Pakistani authorities later reported that she converted to Islam, adopted the name Noor Hussain, and married Nasir Hussain from Sheikhupura district near Lahore on November 5. The couple filed a petition in the Lahore High Court alleging police harassment and pressure to end the marriage, leading to a court order for protection. However, her deportation has been stalled amid ongoing legal proceedings.
In the audio, Sarabjeet describes her condition as “not good,” alleging abuse from her husband and in-laws, lack of money, and even missing basic necessities like warm clothes and shoes. She mentions prior contact with Hussain, claims she went to Pakistan partly to delete obscene photos in his possession, and insists she was not there as a spy. She pleads for assurance that she won’t face harm upon return, expresses longing for her children, and warns of potential self-harm if mistreated again. Family sources have suggested blackmail involving explicit material as a factor in her prolonged stay.

The case has raised alarms over the safety of Indian pilgrims under the 1974 bilateral protocol, with allegations of coercion, forced conversion, and misuse of religious visas. Critics highlight risks for women in cross-border interactions, while intelligence concerns point to exploitation patterns. No official response has emerged from Pakistani authorities on the latest audio, though the matter continues under scrutiny by Indian agencies and the Lahore High Court.
As the clip circulates widely, it has renewed calls for intervention to facilitate Sarabjeet’s safe return. Her emotional plea underscores the complexities of international marriages, visa overstays, and personal freedoms in sensitive bilateral contexts, leaving many questioning the circumstances that led to her current predicament.
