Former Karnataka MLC Alleges Kidnapping at Gunpoint, Gang Claimed Rs 10 Crore Contract to Kill Him

Former Karnataka MLC Dayananda Reddy held hostage for four hours, freed after Rs 2 crore promise.

Former Karnataka Legislative Council member Dayananda Reddy has alleged that he was kidnapped at gunpoint by a group of unidentified men who held him hostage for several hours and demanded a large sum of money for his release. The incident, which reportedly occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, has prompted a police investigation into charges of kidnapping, criminal intimidation, and extortion. Authorities have begun efforts to identify and trace the suspects involved in the alleged crime.

According to a complaint lodged at the Attibele police station, Reddy was returning home with his driver after completing work at the Gold Coin Club, where he serves as president. The incident reportedly took place around 12.15 am near Heelalige village on Bengaluru’s outskirts. Reddy told police that two men on a motorcycle stopped his vehicle under the pretext of delivering a gift. Once the car doors were opened, the men allegedly entered the vehicle and threatened the occupants with a firearm.

The complaint states that a red-colored car carrying additional suspects soon joined the group. The alleged kidnappers then forced Reddy’s driver into the rear seat and drove the vehicle through Bommasandra and Attibele before taking the former legislator to a secluded area near KHB Layout in Jigala village. Reddy claims he was held there against his will for more than four hours while the suspects discussed financial demands and threatened his life.

During the ordeal, Reddy alleged that one of the men pressed a gun against his neck and claimed that the gang had received a contract worth Rs 10 crore to kill him. According to the complaint, the former MLC pleaded for his life and offered to pay money in exchange for being released. The suspects initially demanded Rs 3 crore but later agreed to reduce the amount to Rs 2 crore after negotiations.

Reddy told police that he informed the gang he would only be able to arrange such a large sum after banks opened later in the day. The accused allegedly provided him with a mobile phone number and instructed him to contact them once the money had been arranged. Before leaving, one of the suspects reportedly identified himself as “Praveen.” Reddy also claimed he noticed that the red car used by the gang carried a Kerala registration number.

The former legislator was reportedly released around 4.45 am and subsequently informed his family before approaching the police. Based on his statement, the Attibele police have registered a case and launched an investigation. Officials said efforts are underway to verify the allegations, identify the suspects, and determine the circumstances surrounding the reported kidnapping and extortion attempt. The case has drawn significant attention given Reddy’s political background and the serious nature of the claims made in the complaint.
