Delhi Police Arrest Man, Recover Six Stolen Mobile Phones And Motorcycle

Delhi Police arrested a suspected mobile snatcher and recovered six stolen phones linked to multiple theft cases.

The South District Police in Delhi have arrested a 20-year-old man accused of involvement in multiple mobile phone snatching and theft cases across the national capital. Officials said the Anti-Auto Theft Squad (AATS) apprehended the suspect and recovered six stolen mobile phones along with a motorcycle allegedly used in carrying out the crimes. The arrest comes amid ongoing efforts by Delhi Police to curb rising incidents of street crime and mobile snatching in the city.

The investigation began after a complaint was filed by Yuvika Wadhwa regarding the snatching of her mobile phone near G-Block in C.R. Park. Based on the complaint, police registered FIR No. 93/2026 under Section 304(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at C.R. Park Police Station on May 5. A special police team was subsequently formed under the supervision of senior South District officers to identify and trace the accused.

According to police officials, investigators conducted a detailed examination of CCTV footage collected from the area surrounding the crime scene. The footage allegedly showed a lone motorcycle rider carrying out the snatching while concealing his identity by covering his face. The motorcycle used in the incident reportedly had a defective number plate, making identification more difficult for investigators.

Police said sustained technical surveillance, CCTV trail analysis and local intelligence gathering eventually led investigators to the Sangam Vihar area, where the suspect was identified as Aakash. Acting on a tip-off received on May 17, the police laid a trap near Nala Road in Khirki Village and apprehended the accused while he was riding the motorcycle allegedly used in the offences. During the search operation, officers recovered six mobile phones later found to be linked to several theft and snatching cases registered at different police stations across Delhi.

During interrogation, the accused allegedly disclosed that he had sold the mobile phone connected to the C.R. Park case to another individual identified as Bunty, a resident of Sangam Vihar. Police said efforts are currently underway to trace and arrest the receiver and recover the remaining stolen device. Investigators further stated that the accused targeted pedestrians in crowded areas and sold stolen phones through local contacts to finance his alleged drug addiction.

Police records indicate that the arrest has helped solve several pending theft and snatching cases registered in police stations including Mehrauli, Fatehpur Beri, Saket and Ambedkar Nagar. Delhi Police said the operation was successful due to coordinated fieldwork, technical surveillance and continuous monitoring by the AATS team. Authorities reiterated their commitment to tackling street crime and stated that further investigation into the wider network connected to the thefts is ongoing.
