Air India Singapore Flight Returns to Delhi Due to Technical Issue
Singapore-bound Air India Dreamliner returns to Delhi after APU fire warning shortly after takeoff.
A Singapore-bound Air India flight carrying around 190 passengers was forced to return to Delhi early Thursday after a technical issue triggered a fire warning, officials said. The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner operating flight AI 2380 was airborne for about an hour before the crew decided on a precautionary return. Sources told PTI that the aircraft’s Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) issued a fire alert shortly after takeoff. The flight crew promptly followed safety protocols and returned to Delhi, ensuring the safety of all passengers and crew onboard.
Air India confirmed the incident in a statement, saying, “The aircraft landed safely in Delhi. Our ground teams extended all necessary assistance to passengers, and an alternative aircraft was arranged for onward travel to Singapore.” The spokesperson expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to travelers.

Flight-tracking data from Flightradar24 showed that AI 2380 took off from Delhi but circled back after approximately an hour, landing safely at around 1 am. The incident sparked concern among passengers, though no injuries were reported. Passengers were later flown to Singapore on a replacement aircraft, and the airline assured that safety remains its top priority. Officials emphasized that the precautionary return was standard procedure in response to the APU alert.
The incident highlights the rigorous safety measures followed by airlines, especially when handling technical warnings mid-air. Air India officials said the aircraft will undergo a thorough technical inspection before resuming regular operations.
