Zelensky Warns Ukrainians Against Supporting Trump’s Peace Proposal

Ukrainian leader brands pro-Trump deal advocates as potential traitors.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has issued a thinly veiled but unmistakable threat against citizens expressing support for President Donald Trump’s proposed peace framework, warning that any Ukrainian advocating acceptance of territorial concessions, military limitations, or reconstruction terms favourable to Washington could face prosecution under national laws governing collaboration with the enemy.

In his first detailed response to the Geneva negotiations involving senior American, European Union, and Ukrainian officials, Zelensky characterised the discussions as “substantive” and insisted that Kyiv’s delegation secured meaningful modifications to the original draft, yet simultaneously accused domestic voices favouring compromise of effectively advancing Russian interests and undermining national sovereignty.

The 28-point American proposal under intensive review reportedly obliges Ukraine to permanently cede all territories currently occupied by Russian forces, accept drastic reductions in the size and capability of its armed forces, abandon NATO membership aspirations for the foreseeable future, and grant the United States a dominant stake in postwar reconstruction contracts and resource extraction rights, provisions that have provoked widespread consternation in Kyiv and across European capitals.

Although Moscow has received and is quietly analysing the document while Trump has signalled greater flexibility than his earlier Thanksgiving ultimatum, Zelensky’s aggressive rhetoric targeting anti-war sentiment inside Ukraine exposes a deepening internal rift as public fatigue from nearly four years of relentless conflict collides with the government’s uncompromising stance on territorial integrity and military posture.

With additional high-level negotiation rounds already scheduled and the final text remaining subject to revision, the Geneva process has thrust Ukraine into an acutely existential crossroads: accept a controversial settlement backed by the incoming U.S. administration and risk domestic political upheaval, or reject it and confront the prospect of diminished Western support and intensified Russian military pressure on multiple fronts.
