Yogi Adityanath Promises Scooties to 50,000 Girl Students

Over ₹148 crore also reaches 4.60 lakh students as scholarships.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday reiterated that the state government will provide scooties to 50,000 meritorious girl students in their final year of graduation next month. The announcement was made during an event in Lucknow, where the chief minister also highlighted several education-related welfare measures being implemented by the state government. The scooties will be distributed under the Rani Lakshmibai Scooty Scheme, which was approved by the Uttar Pradesh cabinet in July.

Under the scheme, free scooties will be provided on a merit basis to 5% of meritorious women students in each university and college. The benefit is available to students who are natives of Uttar Pradesh, according to the details shared at the event. The initiative is aimed at supporting eligible female students during the final year of their graduation, with the distribution scheduled for next month. The announcement adds another component to the state government's education and student welfare programmes.

During the same event, Adityanath said the Uttar Pradesh government was also providing tablets to two crore youths across the state. He said around 60 lakh beneficiaries had already received the devices, while the remaining eligible youths would receive them soon. The chief minister presented these initiatives alongside the government's broader efforts related to scholarships, fee reimbursements and educational support for students.

Adityanath also transferred more than ₹148 crore towards scholarships and fee reimbursements directly into the accounts of more than 4.60 lakh students at pre-matric and post-matric levels. The funds were released for the current financial year, while the chief minister personally handed certificates to 11 students during the programme. The transfer was presented as part of the government's efforts to provide financial assistance to students through its scholarship and fee reimbursement programmes.

The chief minister also criticised the previous Samajwadi Party government while discussing the distribution of scholarships for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students. Adityanath alleged that scholarships for these communities were not disbursed during the previous government and accused it of misappropriating the funds. His remarks were made while outlining what he described as changes in the state's scholarship system after the BJP government came to power in 2017.

Adityanath said that after the BJP government assumed office in 2017, scholarships for the 2016-17 and 2017-18 academic years were disbursed simultaneously. He also reiterated the government's plans to provide the remaining tablets to eligible youths and confirmed that the scooty distribution for 50,000 meritorious final-year female graduates would take place next month under the Rani Lakshmibai Scooty Scheme.
