Yemen Lauds India’s Unwavering Friendship, Strong Ties

Yemeni leader celebrates deep India-Yemen partnership in Riyadh.

Yemen’s top leader, Rashad Al-Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council, hailed the deep-rooted friendship and cooperative bilateral relations with India during a meeting with Indian Ambassador Suhel Khan in Riyadh on Sunday. Joined by Deputy Chief of Mission Abu Mathen and First Secretary Rishi Tripathi, the discussions focused on strengthening India-Yemen ties and addressing mutual interests, according to an X post by the Indian mission.

Al-Alimi expressed gratitude for India’s steadfast support for the Yemeni people and its legitimate government, highlighting humanitarian aid such as wheat shipments, medical supplies, medicines, and COVID-19 vaccines. He underscored the robust commercial and economic partnership, noting that bilateral trade reached approximately USD 1 billion over the past year despite Yemen’s challenging circumstances. Al-Alimi also praised India’s critical role in enhancing maritime security in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab, urging further facilitation of Indian wheat imports to support Yemen’s needs, as stated in an X post by Yemen’s foreign affairs ministry.

The Yemeni leader emphasized the historical ties binding the two nations, rooted in shared values and mutual respect. He highlighted opportunities for deeper collaboration in areas like trade, healthcare, and regional stability. Ambassador Khan reaffirmed India’s commitment to Yemen’s unity and stability, detailing plans to transfer consular services to Aden and explore additional support programs for the Yemeni government and its people.
